Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma is a comedy film about the desperation of unemployed people to make money and survive in the world. Panduranga (Rajkumar) is quick-witted and has a funny relationship with his bedridden grandmother. Though he is a MA graduate he can’t find a job because wherever he goes, they ask for recommendations or bribes. At home other than his grandmother, he has an old mother and unmarried sister whom he has to take care of. So out of desperation he pretends to be an old man and works in a playschool where old people are hired to take care of children. But his uncle comes there and exposes his disguise and he loses his job. His uncle is a small conman who has a real estate business and wants Pandu to join him and also marry his daughter.
One day, Pandu’s other sister returns home after being kicked out by her in-laws because her gambling husband discovered that her ornaments were all rolled gold. Pandu is upset that his family used such cheap methods to get his sister married and vows to earn money. His uncle suggests a place where they only employ handicapped people. So Pandu pretends to be a mute person and gets a job there. His supervisor is also a mute lady, Parvathi (Madhavi). They become friends but while they’re walking one day, they are both exposed as liars when they find that they have both been pretending to be mute. This increases their friendship and they decide to help each other to earn money with more conning schemes.
