Muthanna is an orphan who lives in a village. He is a simple person and is known and liked by the villagers for his honesty and helpful nature. One day, he saves a girl who is being attacked by the village rowdy. Though some of the villagers say that they should go to the panchayat, Muthanna asks them to forgive him and lets him go. But he instead spreads a rumor about a girl whom Muthanna considers like his sister and breaks her upcoming marriage. Muthanna is upset by this and vows to get her married to a good and worthy man.
In the meantime, Muthanna’s old friend Rameshappa has just come from Bengaluru where he is studying. He secretly owes some money and is being threatened about it. He becomes desperate and decides to rob the temple hundi. That night as he is walking back after stealing, he meets Muthanna and becomes nervous. He asks Muthanna to hand over the bag he is carrying to his friend and escapes from there. But on the way, Muthanna is stopped by villagers who discover the stolen money.
Ramesha begs Muthanna to not reveal the truth and Muthu agrees and takes the blame. The Panchayat decides that Muthanna cannot stay in the village anymore and he is beaten by the villagers and chased out of the village. With no where to go, Muthanna asks a lorry driver to give him a drop to Bengaluru city and from here his life takes a different path.
